You need a valid student, staff or alumni ID card to borrow from the library.

Students, staff, and faculty of UDST may:

• borrow an unlimited number of books (see below for loan periods)
• access any of our online resources from anywhere (on campus or off)
• place a hold on a checked out item so it will be held at the library for the borrower to pick up; holds will lapse if you do not pick up your item within two days of receiving an email that your hold is available
• borrow 1 game at a time
• borrow up to 3 pieces of digital media equipment at a time

Students may, in addition to the above, check out course reserves. 

UDST Alumni with a valid alumni card may:

• borrow up to 5 books, magazines or journals, in total 
• not place holds, borrow course reserves, games or digital media equipment

• Confidentiality and registration information - A borrower’s intellectual freedom and right to privacy is recognized and honoured at all times, and all borrower information is confidential. A valid ID is required to borrow materials. The following information is required from each borrower in order to register with the library: full name, valid UDST ID number, valid email address, mobile number, and home number (if applicable).

• Course Reserves – At the request of an instructor and the discretion of the library, an item may be placed on reserve and shelved behind the circulation desk. Eligible borrowers may access a maximum of 2 reserve items at a time. The loan period for reserve items will be set by a librarian with the recommendation of the instructor.

• Holds – Eligible borrowers may place a hold on an item that is currently checked out. When the item is returned to the library, an email is sent to let the borrower know the item is now available and will be held for 5 working days.

• In-Library Use Only / Non-circulating – Newspapers and reference material are not available for loan, but may be used within the library.

• Lost or Damaged Items - All borrowers assume responsibility for lost or damaged library materials. When a library item is overdue by one week, the borrower is notified by email. Overdue notices will be sent every week up to three weeks. Borrowers may be billed for items that are not returned, along with a standard processing fee of 75 QAR per item. Staff leaving Doha at the end of their contract are asked to have their library account cleared; if there is still an item checked out, they may return it, replace it with an exact copy, or pay its replacement cost. Graduating students also need to clear their account, failure to do so will result in a hold being placed on their student record and diploma. For any lost, damaged, or missing items, payments must be made Sunday to Thursday, between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Please note that only card payments are accepted. 

Patrons receive overdue notices as outlined below. 

Overdue Books (non-course reserves) and Games: Receives a notification on the first day overdue, and every 7 days after that.

Overdue Course Reserves: Receives a daily notification, starting on the first day overdue.

Overdue Digital Media Equipment: Receives a notification on the first day overdue, and then every two days after that.
