Study Spaces

Both the Library and Learning Commons provide a variety of individual and group study spaces, including carrels, booths and rooms. Some of these spaces are bookable by students whereas others are available on a first-come, first-served basis and open to all.

Terms and Conditions

Study rooms are provided for the use of UDST students only to engage in quiet study activities.  Please respect our guidelines:

  1. Bookings: Rooms are booked online and on a "first come, first serve" basis.

  2. Cancellations if late:  If you are 10 minutes late, your booking will be cancelled, and the room made available to others.

  3. Room Occupancy Policy: If at any time during the booking period there are fewer than the minimum number of people in the room, staff will give a warning. If the situation doesn't change within 15 minutes, the room booking will be cancelled and made available to others.

  4. Unattended belongings in rooms: Belongings should not be left unattended in a study room for more than 15 minutes. Library staff will remove unattended items from the room after 15 minutes and make the room available for others to book.

  5. Maximum times:  Study rooms can be booked for a maximum of 2 hours per day. 

  6. One room maximum: Only one room can be booked during a specified time period. Overlapping bookings may be cancelled by library staff.

  7. Maximum students: Individual study rooms are reserved for 1-2 students. The maximum number of students allowed in group study rooms varies and is listed on the booking form. 

  8. Students only: Study rooms are intended for student use only and cannot be booked for instruction purposes. 

  9. ID card required:  All users must provide their student ID cards to library staff to obtain a key. If a group does not sign in all users, they will be asked to leave.

  10. Packing Up: Please start packing up your belongings at least 5 minutes before the end of your booking to ensure a smooth transition for the next student(s). 

  11. Cleaning: Rooms may not be cleaned in between each use. For your safety, please wipe down all surfaces with a disinfectant and wash/sanitize your hands before and after using the study rooms. 

  12. Type of use:  Study rooms are for studying. Socializing in study rooms is not permitted.  Rooms are not to be used for regular scheduled classes or tutoring sessions.

  13. Food and drink:  Covered drinks are allowed in our spaces. Food is not permitted.

  14. Noise:  All users must maintain an appropriate noise level.  If you disturb the silence and quiet studying in the library, you will be asked to leave.

  15. Windows and lights: Study room windows cannot be covered and lights must remain on at all times.

  16. Condition after use:  Rooms must be left in a clean condition.

  17. Respect: All users must respect the culture and traditions of Qatar and behave accordingly.

  18. Abusive Behaviour: Verbal abuse of staff or security will not be tolerated. Abusive behaviour will result in removal from the study room and a cancellation of the booking. 

  19. Code of Conduct: Users must adhere to the Student Code of Conduct.

Library staff may (temporarily or permanently) suspend study room use privileges for students who do not follow the above rules.

Study Booths, Carrels and Tables are provided for the use of UDST students only to engage in quiet study activities.  Please respect our guidelines:

  4. One booth/room maximum: Only one study space / study room can be booked during a specified time period. Overlapping bookings may be cancelled by library staff.

  5. Maximum students: Group study booths are reserved for 3-4 students. Individual study booths are reserved for 1-2 students. Carrels and Tables are reserved for a maximum of 1 student. If these limits are not adhered to, each person in the group will be asked to leave. 

  6. Students only: Study spaces are intended for student use only and cannot be booked for instruction purposes. 

  7. ID card required:  All users must provide their student ID cards to library staff in order to sign in. If a group does not sign in all users, they will be asked to leave.

Library staff may (temporarily or permanently) suspend study space privileges for students who do not follow the above rules. Library staff maintains the right to remove any individual without previous warning.
