Although this guide is not a complete text on law regarding copyright, we have designed it as an introduction to help students, staff, and instructors identify copywritten material.
Copyright protects the expression of ideas. A poem, painting, musical score, performer's performance, sound recordings, communicatoin signals (like radio waves transmitted through space with any artificial guide, for reception by the public), computer programs are all examples of valuable creations. They are protected regardless of their merit or commercial value.
